Betty's Mouth: multivocal poetry

[ photo: Salach, Donohue ] Cindy Salach and Sheila Donohue ( pictured: Green Mill, 1995 ) became Chicago's premiere performance poetry duo by the mid-90s using a very tightly woven multivocal technique. Their performance style evolved from a long thread of previous collaborations. There are few words to describe exactly what the technique involves other than to say that the two artists simply speak as one seamless entity, occasionally in alternate words or alternate phrases, occasionally in parallel, but always with a coherence that only experience and a shared intuition could create.

To hear a signature poem written by Salach and performed by her and Donohue called I'm a stranger here myself, press the play button.
